Ben Schragger ‘19, who majored in Sport Management and minored in Business, was hired shortly after graduation by CBS Sports in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Schragger is responsible for working on CBS's Fantasy Football Today podcast, which is a daily project that provides advice for Fantasy Football players. Schragger is involved in every step of the process as he outlines each episode, provides on-air analysis, researches content for new episodes, and much more.
In addition to his role as Podcast Producer, Schragger also manages the podcast’s social media pages and was responsible for launching a Twitter campaign called #AskFFT, which has regularly been the #1 trending topic on Sunday mornings prior the NFL’s first kickoff. Not only does Schragger manage and assist with so many aspects of the CBS fantasy sports podcast, but he is also an editor and writer for CBS Sports fantasy sports articles.
“My editorial role primarily consists of writing our daily newsletter, which includes a concise update of what’s going on in the fantasy football world and our top articles of the day,” Schragger said.
Schragger attributes much of his success in the industry his creation of Fantasy Football Live (FFL). FFL was a fantasy football consultancy that Schragger founded in 2013, while still in high school.
At Rice, Schragger, who was also a member of Rice’s varsity baseball team, was able to hone in on his passion for Fantasy Football and his popular Twitter account began to increase to more than 30,000 followers.
“I was able to connect with the CBS Sports team through contacts from previous internships,” Schragger said. “Pitching the importance of creating a new role at CBS was a challenge, but the public speaking and presentation skills that I learned from Sport Management classes prepared me well to speak with confidence in a professional manner.”
While at Rice, Schragger secured a number of internships. In 2018, Schragger interned with Berk Communications, a PR firm in NYC responsible for boosting public relations, publicity, and community relations for Roc Nation’s professional athletes. In 2017, Schragger performed as the Community Affairs intern at Major League Baseball headquarters. He also served as a marketing intern for the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee. In addition, during the 2016 NCAA Final Four, Schragger worked the event as a Social Media Publisher were he engaged with thousands of fans via the NCAA’s social media accounts.
Schragger also won the 2019 Roemmich Award as the top student in the Department of Sport Management.
