Our degree programs are designed to provide students with a rigorous technical foundation in statistical modeling and computer programming languages like R, Python, and SQL. By focusing on sports data, students are given a unique opportunity to strengthen these complex skills by working on problems about which they are passionate. This immersive approach ensures that our graduates possess both the theoretical knowledge and the practical experience required by the industry.
The BA in Sport Analytics is one of the pioneering undergraduate programs of its kind globally. Spun off from Rice's statistics major in 2022, the program retains the deep mathematical foundation of its heritage. This core statistical rigor serves as a primary differentiator, setting our undergraduates apart from peers in more traditional sports management tracks.
For postgraduate scholars, we offer a Sport Analytics specialization within the Master of Data Science (MDS) degree program, administered by the Department of Computer Science. The MDS can be completed in just three semesters of full-time study, including three targeted sport analytics courses which compose the specialization. The Sport Analytics specialization is exclusive to the on-campus MDS cohort to foster peer collaboration and faculty mentorship.
