Many students majoring in Sport Management at Rice University are taking advantage of their free time during summer to intern in the sport and entertainment industry. At press time, more than 20 students have acquired internships for this summer.
Breion Allen ’16, who is interning with Comcast, emphasized her appreciation for the Department of Sport Management in helping her find an internship that matched her career goals.
“I’m really excited about this opportunity and to really see what it’s like to be in broadcasting and production,” said Allen. “I feel like this experience will do great things for me if I use my new connections and new skills. The Department of Sport Management, especially Professor [Tom] Stallings, really helped me with finding connections to eventually link up to Comcast and also really prepared me for my interview that landed me the internship.”
Cali Roper ’16 shared the same sentiments. She commended Professor Stallings for showing her the numerous opportunities available in news reporting and helping her land an internship this summer with KHOU 11’s Great Day Houston.
“News reporting has always been a dream of mine that I didn’t really have high hopes of reaching at first, but now to see that it is actually attainable is such an incredible feeling,” said Roper. “I just needed faith, guidance, and dedication to do what I could to get my foot in the door.”
