Eventellect, the Houston-based secondary market analytics and sports consulting company, selected rising senior Sebastian Gonzalez as a recipient of a scholarship that funded his attendance at the Sport Business Journal’s Ticketing Symposium in Detroit this summer.
Gonzalez has been interning with the Houston Astros in business strategy since the start of the year and plans to implement what he has learned at the conference in his work with the Astros and further along into his future career in sports.
"This conference helped showed me that although you may know some things about sports and sports business, every market is completely different and every team has its own unique challenges that you would never expect," Gonzalez said. "I came into the conference thinking that most people would have the same challenges as the Astros had but that is not the case at all."
When asked what he would take away from the conference, Gonzalez mentioned that he wanted to focus on what he could apply to his current work with the Astros.
"I was most interested in the information given on non-competitive premium spaces, dynamically pricing ticket fees, and how to manage fan data in an efficient and transparent way," Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez does not yet know exactly what he wants to do with his career, but he leans towards working on the business strategy side of sports, perhaps working in senior level management one day. As for now, he is most grateful for the opportunities he has had working for the Astros and attending this Ticketing Symposium.
"Being able to connect with like-minded professionals in the sports industry was an amazing opportunity created through the AXS ticketing Symposium," Gonzalez said. "I am extremely grateful to Eventellect for giving me this opportunity!”
