The 2015 Scholar Athlete Banquet was host to numerous talented athletes who have also exceeded academic expectations in their classes as well. The banquet gives recognition to student-athletes who have sustained a very high GPA, contributed many efforts towards the community, and have made incredible impacts on their teams.
Four Sport Management majors were honored that evening for having the highest grade point average on their respective teams. They included: James Farrimond (football), Meredith Gamble (track and field), Amy Czyz (soccer), and Megan Shafer (basketball).
“It’s such an honor to be part of an institution that places an emphasis on both a student and an athlete, Czyz said. “Few schools hold their athletes to such a heightened academic standard. It’s that environment that has allowed us to thrive.”
Along with the scholar athletes, several sport management students were given the recognition of exemplifying an honor athlete. These athletes were respected for their academic achievement of sustaining a 3.3 GPA or higher. During the evening, students were able to recognize their favorite professors. Dr. Clark Haptonstall, Mr. Tom Stallings, Dr. Jimmy Disch, and Dr. Jason Sosa were all respected for their contributions to the Department of Sport Management.
Michael Warren, a junior from Frankston, Texas, is majoring in Sport Management.
