Housed within the Department of Computer Science, Rice University’s Master of Data Science (MDS) program is a professional, non-thesis degree that provides interdisciplinary instruction across statistics, computer science, and mathematics. Since 2024, we have offered a Sport Analytics specialization, allowing graduate students to apply advanced predictive modeling and machine learning to the sports industry.
This specialization provides a valuable opportunity for students to pivot into the sports industry, opening up new career opportunities that may not have been available during their undergraduate studies. Rather than focusing purely on theory, students complete hands-on coursework that results in professional portfolio projects to showcase during their job search. By demonstrating a concrete ability to solve complex, sports-centric problems, our graduate students build the rigorous skills necessary to stand out.
The Sport Analytics specialization is only available for the on-campus MDS program.
