Rice’s Event Management class (SMGT 366) put on the third annual “Dodge for a Cure” charity dodgeball tournament on Sunday, April 10, 2019. All proceeds went towards the Chance for Hope Foundation, an organization that provides free housing, meal delivery, and fun events to pediatric cancer families.
“Dodge for a Cure 2019 was a success,” said Lindsey Douglas ‘21, the marketing head for the event management team. “We had 11 teams show up to play some dodgeball and support a wonderful cause at the same time!”
The event was the culmination of a semester’s worth of hard work and planning on behalf of the event team, who was advised by Professor in the Practice Diane Crossey along the way. Not surprisingly, Dodge for a Cure went off without a hitch, bringing a polished, lively, and meaningful event to Gibbs Recreation Center. The competition in the tournament was friendly yet fierce, and in the end, a team made up of Rice football players reigned victorious.
“It was very rewarding to see the event come together after spending so much time planning it,” said Douglas. “I’m proud of the work we did, and I hope to see the event continue to be successful in years to come.”
Bailey Douglas, a senior from Burleson, Texas, is double-majoring in Sport Management and Psychology.
