During this year’s “Night of the Owl” celebration, DJ Green ‘17 was awarded the Hubert E. Bray Scholar Athlete of the Year award for his academic commitment and excellence.
With hopes of attaining success, Green was recruited by Rice University out of his hometown, Mesquite, Texas. Upon arrival, Green attained academic excellence early on, earning the C-USA Commissioner’s Medal for posting a GPA of at least 3.75 not once, but three times. However, his most recent honor, the Hubert E. Bray Scholar Athlete of the Year award, recognizes him above all his male peers for his dedication to scholarship.
“It was a huge honor for me to see my name on such a prestigious award,” Green said. “My family has congratulated me every time they saw me.”
Green played middle linebacker and special teams for the Owls. Post-graduation, Green plans to pursue his Master’s degree in Accounting, and is on track to do auditing for one of the Big 4 accounting firms. Though he is centrally focused on his career path, Green has a myriad of reasons why he stays focused and strives for excellence.
“My legacy is why,” Green said. “My parents instilled that in me since day one. I feel like I have been given the opportunities to be successful. It isn't just about money though, I'm pushed to be better with my principles and influence.”
