During its February meeting, Rice University’s Faculty Senate approved the proposal for curriculum revisions effective for the 2016-17 academic year for the Sport Management major, which will now require students to choose one of three areas of concentration (Sport Law, Sport Analytics, and Sport Leadership), in addition to the completion of the major’s core requirement classes.
With the updated curriculum format, students seeking the B.A. degree in Sport Management will now complete 31 credit hours of Core Requirements and 15-16 credit hours of classes in their area of concentration.
Preparing students for future careers in the industry is still a priority for the program.
“By adding the areas of concentration, Rice students will be able to specialize in a specialized segment of Sport Management,” said Dr. Clark Haptonstall, Chair of the Department of Sport Management. “The response to the new curriculum that we have received from the students and industry professionals has been very positive.”
Alessandra Pineiro, a junior from Stuart, Florida, is majoring in Sport Management with a double minor in Business and Sociology.
