Ben Jedlovec ’08 has been promoted to president of Baseball Info Solutions (BIS), a Houston-based company with a mission to provide the most accurate, in-depth, and timely professional baseball data and analysis for clients such as ESPN, Fangraphs, and Major League teams.
Jedlovec’s responsibilities as president include overseeing the day-to-day efforts of the Sales, R&D, IT, and Operations departments. He also works with other members of the BIS management team to create and execute the vision of the company to ensure continued success.
“We have incredibly smart and energetic people throughout the company,” Jedlovec said. “Much of my job is to communicate the company's priorities then get out of the way and let my colleagues take care of things!”
Prior to his promotion, Jedlovec served as vice president of Product Development and Sales, in which he led the company’s sales and research and development efforts.
“In those two years, we grew our revenues over 60 percent,” Jedlovec said. “We also continued our tradition of developing cutting edge metrics, particularly when it comes to defensive analysis.”
Jedlovec attributes his professionalism and work ethic to his education at Rice, where he double-majored in Sport Management and Statistics. His college resume includes interning with the Houston Rockets and student-teaching a college course on sabermetrics, the application of statistical analysis to baseball records and player performance.
Rice Sport Management professor Dr. Disch, who teaches courses on sport analytics, was not at all surprised by Jedlovec’s rapid ascent to president.
“He is so capable and so responsible,” Dr. Disch said. “He’s the perfect person to be in a leadership role. He leads by example.”
