Aleks Perka '09 is currently featured as one of "Tomorrow's Leaders" on the Rice University Athletic Department's website. Last month Perka was honored by Rice as a Scholar Athlete for having the highest grade point average on the men's basketball team. Earlier this week, Perka was one of only five players named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team.
Perka plans to pursue a professional basketball career in Europe following his graduation in May. After his playing career is over, he has a bright future working in the sport industry. This feature discusses Aleks' internship with Sam Houston Race Park. Last summer Aleks started on the same level as all other interns at the race park but was quickly elevated to Head Intern based on his work ethic and expertise. He worked in nearly every department at the popular horse track and concert venue. Aleks became so valuable to Sam Houston Race Park that he ultimately was put in charge of hiring future interns.
