The 2008 NCAA Division II Spring Championships Festival, which was hosted in Houston last May, has been nominated by the readers ofSportsTravel magazine for a 2008 SportsTravel Award. Natalie Kirchhoff '09, who was working with the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority at the time, was a member of a very small staff who organized the four-sport event.
The Festival included the NCAA national championship tournaments for softball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, and women’s lacrosse. All of the events were held at Memorial Park in Houston.
Criteria for nomination and voting include superior organization of and attendance at the event, a superior experience for the competitors and/or spectators at the event, and how the site or venue served to enhance the event. Final balloting is open through September 15, 2008. Winners will be announced at the TEAMS 2008 Conference & Expo, October 21-25, 2008, in Pittsburgh.
