Becca Koval ‘15, a Sport Management major, has jumped on board this semester with Select Sports Group, a sports agency, as an intern. Select Sports Group works with professional athletes by planning itineraries, negotiating the best fits for endorsements amongst these athletes, and ultimately helping these athletes to reach their dreams. Koval had the opportunity to be up close and in the center in all of the action.
Within this internship, Koval wrote pitches for 17 Magazine and Cosmopolitan. She was also in charge of working with the clients on a regular basis by creating itineraries, looking up flight information, and even sitting in on lunch meetings between the agents and clients.
Koval gained knowledge and experience while interning that provided insight on what really happens behind the scenes at Select Sports Group.
“The setting is so professional,” Koval said. “I have been able join lunch meetings and interact with clients. It’s very interactional. I feel like an employee.”
As a member of Rice’s varsity soccer team, Koval has been interested in sports throughout her time here at Rice. Her passion and love for the world of sports grew even more within this internship, especially when it came to NFL draft picks towards the end of her internship.
“I am really excited about the draft coming up at the end of April,” Koval said. “We have been working with our rookies and their public relations, photo shoots, interview setups, etc. It will be really exciting to see everything come together in hopes of getting them drafted.”
Koval is scheduled to graduate early next December. Apart from her Sport Management degree, she also plans to obtain a Spanish Certificate through Rice by graduation. With her Rice Education successfully under her belt, Koval plans to have a career in Event Management.
Becca is the sixth intern from Rice to have worked with Select Sports Group. Previous interns who have been with Select Sports Group are: Scott Lonergran, Megan Zimring, Sabrina Tour, Tiondra Wright, and Ali Pineiro.
Cali Roper, a junior from Houston, Texas, is majoring in Sport Management.
