Sport Management Department Hosts 7th Annual Rice Owl Bowl04/16/14
On Sunday, April 6, students in the Department of Sport Management hosted the 7th annual Rice Owl Bowl, an annual spring fundraiser for the department. The event, held at Palace Bowling Lanes, was the final product of SMGT 366, a Sport Management course in event management and customer service.

Sport Management Majors Honored at 28th Scholar-Athlete Banquet03/28/14
In late February, 18 student-athletes at Rice University were honored at the 28th Scholar-Athlete Banquet, presented by the “R” Association and the Office of Academic Advising for Athletics. The 2014 Scholar Athletes had the highest GPAs on their respective teams. Of the 18 Scholar Athletes, 3 are majoring in Sport Management.

Benecia Newhouse ’02, who majored in Sport Management and Economics and minored in Managerial Studies at Rice University, worked at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games activating AT&T’s official sponsorship of the Games. As a senior account executive of the Marketing Arm, one of AT&T’s agencies, Newhouse solely focuses on AT&T’s Olympic property.
